A travel journal that starts with the cup

We plan trips backwards. First the coffee, then the bed, then everything else.

The Coffee Experiment has been a travel journal about coffee since 2010. We cover espresso bars in Naples and Rome, kiosks in Lisbon, sidewalk tables in Paris and small-town cafés across the American South.

Every guide answers the questions a traveller actually has at the counter. We update the guides as cafés open, close and change their prices.

How we write a guide

  • We check every café is still open before we publish.
  • We list counter prices, because standing and sitting cost different amounts in much of Europe.
  • We explain how locals order, in their words.
  • We never accept payment from the places we cover.

What comes next

Pocket city guides and a Coffee 101 home course launch in 2027. You can see the plans or read the free guides now.
