Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio Review: Is It Worth It?

Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio coffee maker

Hey, Mark here, the barista behind these reviews. Baristas often ask me to compare the FlexBrew Trio with the Ninja DualBrew Pro. The Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio is a three-way coffee maker. It brews K-Cup pods, single cups of ground coffee and a 12-cup carafe. It costs $99.99 to $139.99 depending on the model.

Four model numbers share the name, and the single cup takes about 90 seconds by the maker's own rating. Owners praise the versatility but complain about durability, counter size and drips. The standalone 49902 listing sits at 3.8 stars, while the pooled Amazon score reads 4.5.

Cleaning takes a monthly vinegar run, and the warranty lasts one year in the U.S. The Ninja DualBrew Pro and Keurig K-Duo cost more and add extras. Read on for pod brewing, carafe brewing and cleaning. This is an independent review.

What Is the Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio?

The Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio is a coffee maker that brews pods, single cups of grounds and 12-cup pots. A single-serve side and a glass carafe side share one housing. The two sides brew one at a time.

The FlexBrew Trio is not a Keurig machine. It makes drip-style coffee only, with no espresso function and no milk frother. The single-serve side takes K-Cup pods, other pod brands or ground coffee. The box includes a pod holder and a grounds basket for that job. K-Cup is a registered trademark of Keurig Green Mountain, with no affiliation implied.

The carafe side brews up to 12 cups into a glass carafe that sits on a warming plate. Easy-Touch programming starts a brew the night before. Hamilton Beach says the unit only brews on one side at a time.

Hamilton Beach says consumers voted the FlexBrew Trio 2022 Product of the Year in the coffee maker category. RoastRig listed models at $99.99 to $139.99 on Amazon on October 2, 2026.

Retail listings for the FlexBrew Trio appear at Walmart, Best Buy, Home Depot and Lowe's. Hamilton Beach sells in the U.S. and Canada.

How Does the FlexBrew Trio Brew Three Ways?

The FlexBrew Trio brews three ways: a pod, a single cup of grounds and a full 12-cup carafe. Each way suits a different need, and they differ in speed, mess and cost.

  • Pod: A pod brews 6, 8 or 10 oz (177, 237 or 296 mL) on the 49934. Pods are the fastest, least messy option. They also cost the most per cup.
  • Single cup of grounds: Ground coffee brews 6, 8, 10, 12 or 14 oz (177 to 414 mL) into a mug or a travel mug up to 7-1/4 inches (18.4 cm) tall. RoastRig worked a mug from grounds out at about $0.33, against about $0.57 for a K-Cup.
  • Full carafe: The carafe side takes a basket-style paper filter and 1 tablespoon of coffee per cup. First Coffee Then says delayed brewing can be set up to 24 hours ahead. A coffee maker cup is about 5 oz (148 mL), so 12 cups is five mugs.

Speed and low mess favor pods, while lower cost per cup favors grounds.

The cup rest lifts out to fit a tall travel mug. It also stores the pod holder or grounds basket. First Coffee Then found the basket did not sit perfectly in the rest.

Which Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio Models Exist?

The Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio models include the 49902, 49934, 49976 and 49904. The 49902 and 49934 use one removable 56 oz (1.7 L) tank. The 49976 uses two separate tanks. RoastRig calls the 49902JN the Gen 4 and the 49976 the Gen 3.

Model Lineup:

  • 49902: one removable 56 oz (1.7 L) tank
  • 49934: one 56 oz tank, 90-second single cup, backlit display
  • 49976: two separate tanks, no longer sold on the Hamilton Beach site
  • 49904: 40 oz (1.2 L) single-serve reservoir, 1400 W

The 49934 brews a single cup in about 90 seconds and seven single servings per fill. It also has a backlit display. Hamilton Beach lists these figures on its product page.

The 49976 has an easy-fill reservoir for each side. Hamilton Beach marks it no longer available on its own site. RoastRig listed it at $99.99 on Amazon on October 2, 2026.

The 49904 guide describes a 40 oz (1.2 L) single-serve reservoir with a 15 oz (444 mL) minimum fill. The rating is 120 V, 60 Hz and 1400 W. Hamilton Beach says model numbers can carry letter suffixes, such as the 49902G listed at Home Depot.

Owners find the model, type and series numbers on the appliance itself. Hamilton Beach asks for all three on a warranty claim.

Amazon groups the Gen 3 and Gen 4 machines on one product page and pools their ratings. The star score on that page may not describe the model chosen.

How Do the FlexBrew Trio Specs Differ by Model?

The FlexBrew Trio specs differ by model in tank layout, cup sizes and carafe features. Hamilton Beach lists the 49934 at 13.8 inches (35.1 cm) high, 11.3 inches (28.7 cm) wide and 13.2 inches (33.5 cm) deep.

The 49976 is a bit different in size. It measures 34.8 by 31.0 by 29.0 cm for height, width and depth. It lists Easy-Touch programming, a 2-hour keep warm with auto shutoff, AutoPause and Pour, and a regular or bold setting.

Consumer Reports measured the 49902 at 59 oz (1.7 L) of capacity. The group notes auto-shutoff, a cupcake-type filter and a height-adjustable drip tray for the single-serve side.

How Does the Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio Perform?

The Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio performs well for a drip machine, with mild bitterness and simple controls. First Coffee Then reached that result after tasting both sides and a pod.

Coffee leaves the machine extremely hot on every side. First Coffee Then let each cup cool for a few minutes before drinking.

Brew time differs by side. The carafe side took about 11 minutes to brew 25 oz (739 mL) of water. A K-Cup took about two minutes on the single-serve side. Hamilton Beach claims about 90 seconds for a single cup on its newer models.

The unit also ran louder than other single-serve pod makers First Coffee Then has used.

How Good Is FlexBrew Trio Coffee?

FlexBrew Trio coffee is good for a drip machine, with mellow bitterness. First Coffee Then brewed La Colombe dark roast at a 1:17 coffee-to-water ratio. The cup had a round finish and drank well black.

The single-serve side gave similar results with the same bean, strength and ratio. The machine brews both ways, and the taste stayed close across them.

A Peet's medium roast K-Cup tasted like any pod maker. The flavor was light with a clean finish and little nuance.

Taste also depends on what goes into the machine. Hamilton Beach advises a fine to medium grind and filtered or bottled water for better taste. Very fine grounds can cause the basket to overflow.

Strength is the last setting to consider. Select-a-Brew offers regular or bold. Bold mode needs extra time, and the machine returns to regular after it is unplugged.

How Fast Does the FlexBrew Trio Brew?

The FlexBrew Trio brews fast, about 90 seconds a single cup by Hamilton Beach's own rating. Hamilton Beach contrasts that with older two-way coffee makers.

First Coffee Then timed a K-Cup at about two minutes on its test unit.

In the same test, the carafe side took about 11 minutes for 25 oz (739 mL) of water.

Tank size sets how often the machine needs a refill. Hamilton Beach says the 56 oz (1.7 L) tank of the 49934 covers seven single servings per fill. Bold mode adds brew time.

What Do Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio Reviews Say?

Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio reviews praise the versatility but split on durability. RoastRig reports 4.5 stars across 30,023 ratings on the pooled Amazon listing for the 49902JN and 49976.

The standalone 49902 listing shows 3.8 stars across 12,745 ratings. The pooled listing combines two models, so its score reflects both. RoastRig reads the gap as the older two-tank 49976 lifting the pooled 4.5 average.

RoastRig treats the Gen 4 as a high-3 to low-4 star machine. The site cites a ShopSavvy review summary that appears to mix both generations. It also blurs the line between the two machines.

What Do Owners Like About the FlexBrew Trio?

Owners like the FlexBrew Trio because pods, grounds and a 12-cup pot share one machine. Owners also praise the bold setting, the fast single cup and the programmable timer.

Dishwasher-safe parts earn praise too. First Coffee Then adds that the reservoirs clean with plain white vinegar, so no special descaler is needed.

First Coffee Then found less bitterness than in other drip machines tested.

What Are the Common FlexBrew Trio Complaints?

The common FlexBrew Trio complaints cover durability, counter size, spills, pod seating and carafe drips. RoastRig links the durability concern to the 3.8-star score on the standalone 49902 listing.

Main Complaints:

  • Durability
  • Counter size
  • Hot back panel and hinge steam
  • Spills while filling the tanks
  • Pods that do not seat
  • Carafe drips when poured

Size is the clearest issue. A First Coffee Then test unit measured just over 12 inches (30 cm) deep, 13.5 inches (34 cm) high and 11.5 inches (29 cm) wide. With the carafe lid open, it stood 21.5 inches (54.6 cm) tall.

The back of the unit got very hot in the same test. Steam escaped at the reservoir lid hinge, and the plastic seemed to warp a bit.

Handling draws complaints too: spills while filling the tanks, pods that do not seat and a carafe that drips when poured.

Parts are cheap to replace. A 12-cup glass carafe was $22.99 and a 2-pack of reusable single-serve filters was $9.99 on Amazon.

How Do You Clean the Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio?

The Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio needs a plain white vinegar clean on each side at least once a month. Hamilton Beach says hard water areas need that clean once a week.

These steps come from the 49904 guide, which has separate carafe and single-serve reservoirs. One-tank models may word the single-serve step differently.

The carafe side takes 2 cups (473 mL) of plain white vinegar in the reservoir. Press brew, stop after 30 seconds and wait 30 minutes. Finish the cycle, then run 2 to 3 cycles of cold water.

Carafe Side Steps:

  1. Pour 2 cups (473 mL) of plain white vinegar into the carafe reservoir.
  2. Press brew, then press it again after 30 seconds to stop the cycle.
  3. Wait 30 minutes, then press brew to finish the cycle.
  4. Empty the carafe and run 2 to 3 cycles of cold tap water.

The single-serve side takes plain white vinegar in its reservoir, with a 15 oz (444 mL) or larger mug underneath. Select 8 or 10 oz, stop the brew once vinegar dispenses and wait 30 minutes. Finish the cycle, then run 2 to 3 cold water cycles.

A clogged needle needs a separate fix. Unplug and cool the unit, then twist off the gray removable needle holder. A bent paper clip clears grounds from the piercing needle.

Filtered water cuts how often scale builds, per First Coffee Then. Sour or rancid coffee signals a clean is due.

Is the FlexBrew Trio Dishwasher Safe?

Yes. The FlexBrew Trio is dishwasher safe for its removable parts, on the top rack only. Hamilton Beach also allows hand washing in hot, soapy water.

The SANI setting is off limits. Hamilton Beach warns that its temperatures could damage the product.

The machine body wipes clean with a soft damp cloth. The cord, plug and coffee maker never go in liquid.

The carafe takes no cleansers or steel wool pads.

Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio vs Ninja DualBrew Pro and Keurig K-Duo

The Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio costs less than the Ninja DualBrew Pro and the Keurig K-Duo but offers fewer extras. RoastRig priced all three in October 2026.

The Ninja DualBrew Pro adds a milk frother, an Over Ice setting, a hot water spout and more brew sizes. RoastRig says it does more for about $30 more.

The Keurig K-Duo costs the most of the three. It has the biggest tank and the simplest pod brewing. Grounds need a reusable pod, which the other two machines do not require.

SharkNinja gives the Ninja DualBrew Pro CFP301 a one-year limited warranty. The Keurig K-Duo also carries a one-year limited warranty, which matches the U.S. term on the FlexBrew Trio.

A plain drip machine costs less and rates higher for buyers who never use pods, per RoastRig.

Is the FlexBrew Trio Cheaper Than the Keurig K-Duo?

Yes. The FlexBrew Trio is cheaper than the Keurig K-Duo by $50, at $139.99 against $189.99.

The FlexBrew brews single cups from ground coffee with the basket in the box. The K-Duo needs a reusable pod for that job.

The Ninja DualBrew Pro sits between the two at $169.99. It costs $30 more than the FlexBrew Trio. For that money, it adds a frother, an Over Ice setting and a hot water spout.

How Much Does the Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio Cost?

The Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio costs $99.99 to $139.99 depending on the model. RoastRig listed the 49902JN at $139.99 and the 49976 at $99.99 on Amazon on October 2, 2026. The 49976 list price was $119.85.

A mug from ground coffee costs about $0.33 and a K-Cup about $0.57, by RoastRig's cost check. First Coffee Then puts pods at $0.30 to $1.20 each.

The carafe side takes a paper basket filter. The single-serve basket is reusable, so First Coffee Then calls the coffee itself the main running cost.

Hamilton Beach sells a charcoal water filter 2-pack and a replacement travel mug at $15.99 each. A replacement carafe was $22.99 on Amazon.

The warranty covers single-family household use only. An office or commercial setting falls outside it.

Does the FlexBrew Trio Have a Warranty?

Yes. The FlexBrew Trio does have a warranty: one year in the U.S. and five years in Canada. The warranty covers defects in material and workmanship from the date of original purchase.

The remedy is repair or replacement at Hamilton Beach's option. The owner pays shipping both ways.

The warranty excludes glass, filters, wear from normal use and misuse. It extends only to the original purchaser or gift recipient.

A claim needs proof of purchase. Hamilton Beach says to write to customer service with the model, type and series numbers, not return the unit to the store.

Is the Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio Worth It?

Yes. The Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio is worth it as a budget three-way brewer for a mixed pod and pot household. RoastRig calls it the budget pick for that buyer.

The strengths are three brewing modes, a $100 to $140 price, a reusable single-serve basket and a programmable 12-cup carafe.

The weaknesses are durability and size. The standalone 49902 listing sits at 3.8 stars, and the machine has no frother or iced setting.

The pooled 4.5-star score covers two models, so the newer one rates lower on its own page.

Pros:

  • Three brewing modes in one machine
  • Price of $100 to $140
  • Reusable single-serve basket
  • Programmable 12-cup carafe

Cons:

  • 3.8 stars on the standalone 49902 listing
  • Large counter footprint
  • No frother or iced setting

A mug from grounds instead of a K-Cup saves $0.24 per cup, from RoastRig's $0.33 and $0.57 figures. That adds up to about $88 a year at one cup a day.

The 49976 is the two-tank Gen 3. It was $99.99 on Amazon on October 2, 2026, but Hamilton Beach lists it as no longer available, so stock may be limited.

Who Should Buy the FlexBrew Trio?

A household that splits between pod drinkers and pot drinkers should buy the FlexBrew Trio. Single cups from grounds also cut the cost, at $100 to $140 against $170 or more for rivals.

The Ninja DualBrew Pro suits buyers who want lattes or iced coffee. A single-purpose machine rates higher for buyers who brew only one way.

Low cabinets are a problem. A test unit stood 21.5 inches (54.6 cm) tall with the carafe lid open.

Buyers who rank reliability first should weigh the 3.8-star standalone 49902 listing.
